ONLINE ZOOM CLASSES OFFERED FOR FALL 2020-2021

 ONLINE FALL ZOOM CLASSES:
  • After much research, I chose to purchase the upgraded Zoom meeting plan because of the following:
    • It allows me more safety options, including encrypted meetings and the ability to "close" meetings after everyone has entered.
    • It allows me to include more students at one time for groups.
    • It allows me a longer meeting-window time, up to 24 hours.
    • It provides a SHARING option, allowing me to share documents or my real-time writing.
  • I also purchased an InSwan Document Camera for my classes.  This attaches to my computer, and I can use it as a whiteboard; it flips the picture for my students, and they see it "normally." In a ZOOM meeting, I can "share" the screen with my camera, and my students can still see me and what I'm writing.
  • I can utilize Google Docs, both through my Sharing system of Zoom and separately.
  • I will continue to use thinkwave.com as my gradebook, and just as I have done in the past, parents and students will be able to access their information with the link I provide.  In the case of a child not needing credit or just taking the course to "refresh," this would not apply. Not all clients have a grade report; however, thinkwave.com provides a full account of all grades and access to regular progress reports and a final report card.
Please reach out to me if you have a question or concern.

Full-year English classes include a fall and spring semester.   Class meeting times may include a Monday/Wednesday schedule or a Tuesday/Thursday schedule.  Classes may not begin earlier than 9 am.  Each class period may last up to an hour and a half per day; however, students and parents may choose to have shorter classes.  The prices remain the same, regardless.  I follow my calendar (class holidays listed below), but I understand if students need to be gone another time.

If my schedule permits, I also offer SEMESTER and 9 WEEK CLASSES.  These follow the same format of my other classes. See "Rates" Tab.

I offer the following courses:   English 6, English 7, English 8, English 9, 10th grade American Literature, 11th grade British Literature, and 12th grade World Literature.  I am happy to change a course to another grade level, but I will choose the content of the class.

My curriculum focuses on "classics" that are traditionally taught in most English courses.  I have chosen them to work as a springboard for the writing that will take place in the class.  While some students may have read texts before, they most likely have not read them to analyze or respond to in writing.  This requires a different skill and attention to detail.

Classes include:
  • Book List
  • Syllabus and Breakdown
  •  Monthly Schedule of Upcoming Deadlines
  • Day-by-Day Direction
  • Handouts and Rubrics for All Units and Writing Assignments
  • Prompt and Comprehensive Grading and Feedback
  • Writing Focus

2020-2021 HOLIDAYS AND IMPORTANT DATES:

EXPECTATIONS

  • Students are expected to be on time, or let me know times have changed.
  • Students are expected to purchase textbooks and have them in class.
  • Students are expected to stay organized and have needed handouts.
  • Students are expected to meet deadlines and be responsible.
  • I do not trade missed classes for editing or tutoring.
  • I am responsible for doing all that I ask of my kids!  I expect my best each day!

$200 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT

Once a family decides to commit to a class, they will need to review the contract and pay a $200 deposit to secure a time slot.  This payment is part of the cost of the class and will be deducted from the total payment.  It ensures the family the right to choose the time they want for the class, based on what I have available.  I will be glad to change the time for as long as I have it available; however, if the family chooses to opt out of the class after paying the deposit, the deposit is non-refundable.
